    About B.C. 21st century, the king Yu of the Xia Dynasty made nine great vessels called "Ding" from the bronze-ware contributed by nine states, and separately carved totems of the special local products and animals to show the nine states are all belong to the Xia Dynasty. Since then, the bronze vessel of "Ding" is recognized as the auspicious symbol of authority and faithfulness.
